 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The reason for this post and unfortunately my memory isn't great. Here's a few things I recall. There's a 2-1-2-1 series of blowdowns on Passaconaway Cutoff; 2 for a multi stem. These have some big trees in them. There's some problem blowdowns on Walden around Nanamocomuck; as the steep climb finishes. Walden was in pretty good shape for a trail in rough terrain. Passaconaway Cutoff was pretty good other than the new blowdowns with a few mud/wet spots. Oliverian Brook had lots of soft spots/mud/water especially above the Passaconaway Cutoff. Square Ledge has some eroding areas of course, above Passaconaway Cutoff but a lot of the waterbars are still functioning. I tried to clean out those that weren't but with only poles and boots to use I'm sure it's not great or long term. Square Ledge over to the 4 way jct was pretty good. Square Ledge Branch was mostly pretty good; I faintly recall a blowdown down low. I took out a handful of small blowdowns on different trails with a pruning saw, tossed a lot of broken branches, and flicked even more little ones off the trail, but there are plenty more. I didn't see a view sign for the Walden view, but I figure I just didn't pay attention, because I seem to recall seeing it this winter. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Good dog trails for hiking dogs. |
|
 | Bugs: |
No problem. It was a windy day. |
|
 | Lost and Found: |
Single red snowshoe found on Square Ledge approaching the 4 way jct (including Mast) so I moved it to the jct and set it on a large rock. |

 | Comments: |
I did a crazy 8 route that took me over Square Ledge twice and happily skipped grabbing Passaconaway via the last section of Walden. I had hoped to once again see no one on the entire hike off summit but ran into one just below the East Loop and Walden intersection as I was freeing up a waterbar. There was almost no snow or ice; the Walden ledges were dry and grippy. Several times on the hike down Oliverian Brook I smelled smoke, but didn't see or hear anybody. |
