Comments
Comments: Finally getting around to finishing off my 52 with a view. Hayes was number 51. The first 1.2 miles of the Mahoosuc trail was sort of ho hum since you have to zig zag through hydroelectric dam land. Also, when crossing the trestle, watch your head! Once I got on the main trail past Hogan rd, it climbed moderately until the side path to Mascot Pond. From there, it was a stiff climb most of the rest of the way, with a few mellow spots. Lots of mud and standing water about halfway up. The black flies were also collecting in this location. Views from the ledges were spectacular, though there was a hint of canada wildfire haze, which got thicker during the afternoon. For tracing sake, I hiked over to the junction with the Centennial trail, and then headed back for another extended break at the ledge. About a half hour later, I picked my way down the trail, and then took a short side path to the ledge above the mine old next to Mascot pond. Great views from the ledge, but that is where I picked up a tick. I also made the side trip to Mascot Pond. That was a nice place, and the breeze kept away the flies. Looking forward to finishing my 52's on Shelburne Moriah at some point this year!
