Comments
Comments: This was a spur of the moment hike after hitting up Mt Hayes. I originally planned on just checking out a couple waterfalls, but I wanted more views, so the trip was extended. I checked out Gordon, Upper and Lower Salroc, Tama, and Coosauk falls. They were all at a perfect flow, from the melting snow. The Inlook trail means business, and doesn't waste any time climbing to the view points. Great views along the way of the northern Presis. The wind was really funneling up the valley, (40 mph according to the kestrel), so I couldn't relax at any of the vistas. The view from Dome Rock is limited, but it was good to get out of the wind. The Kelton trail is as steep as I remembered, but not quite as steep as Inlook. There is a nice view towards the Mahoosuc range from an outlook. It was neat to look towards Mt Hayes. There were a couple nasty blowdowns that required a short detour. After Kelton, I followed Howker Ridge for a short while and then stopped at Coosauk Falls (though to get a good view unless you climb down the bank of the stream. Then I took Sylvan Way back to the Fallsway at Gordon Falls. I always see moose tracks on that section of Sylvan, and yesterday was no exception. Since the crossing would have been too sketchy, I followed the fallsway down to the Presidential Rail trail, made a left and did the short walk back to Appalachia.
