Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Ok. so this was also confusing to me. Arrived before the park opened. There is a dirt lot that is roped off with a laminated sign that says don't park here between 8am -5pm. But cars had been driven in under the rope & parked. so I did too. walked around the gate into the park and were waved at by staff. At the end of the day, car was still there, with others. no ticket and no one asked me to pay the fee. ????

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Forgive me if I'm misremembering, but I think it was the trail posts & signs at the junctions with WHL & RRL and WHL & BP that are a little confusing because it seemed they had fallen down and were propped back up in not the right spots. I think RRL sign was leaning against a tree. I usually take pics of signs when I'm out tracing, but didn't today. Relied on Gaia more than I usually do to make sure I was on the right trail. All trails are blazed in yellow with the exception of RRL. The blazes are orange, but are very faded.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: signs say no, but I saw one on the trails
Bugs
Bugs: a glorious stiff wind kept them at bay all day.

Comments
Comments: I have been putting off these trails for years and I don't know why. This little state park has something for everyone. I imagine it is very crowded in the summer so, I'm glad I visited in the off season. Getting up close and personal at the bottom edge of White Horse ledge is spectacular and humbling. Hanging out in the sun at the top and soaking up the views from the wide open flat ledges at the top was wonderful. Echo Lake Trail is wide and level. White Horse Ledge has a little bit of everything and imo, is a great trail for anyone looking to get a taste of what it is to hike in the Whites. Bryce Link is a short walk in the pines. Bryce Path is steep and eroded in places the closer you get to the top. Red Ridge Link descending from the junction with WHL starts out on a soft shady footbed, a short section of dry ledge and then gets steeper and rockier and rootier till it meets up with Red Ridge Trail. Trails are very dry overall considering the 4 inches of rain that came down in Conway 2 weeks ago. there are places in the woods off trail where you can see the water washed all the duff away. Lastly, there are many beaten down paths and mountain bike trails in this area that aren't clearly signed and it's easy to get off trail. I did more than once, and I routinely checked the map and Gaia.
