 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Plenty of room at the Smarts Brook trailhead. Sandwich Notch Road is open and there was one car at the Algonquin trailhead around 9:30am. |

 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Nothing worth mentioning. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A couple of minor blowdowns on the upper half of the Smarts Brook trail, but there are tons of blowdowns from the Smarts Brook/Sandwich Dome junction to just short of the Sandwich Dome summit. None were impassable, but it’s slow going. A little bit of snow here and there, mostly under fallen trees and limbs. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Algonquin had a number of rock scrambles that might be difficult. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Black flies were out but were not much of an issue because it was windy out there today. |

 | Comments: |
Add some time into your hiking plan to deal with the blowdowns as you approach Sandwich Dome. The Algonquin trail was a mix of nice, easy sections and rock scrambles. It seemed to me that the upper half was quite steep and I’m glad that I went down it instead of up. I found the trail difficult to follow on a couple of occasions on the bare granite humps. This section could use more cairns or paint. |
