Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The trailhead is 5.4 miles down Success Pond road on the right. Do not be misled by the big Success Mountain sign in a big open area at about mile 3. Keep going. Parking for 2-3 cars, but plenty of place to park on the side of the dirt road.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow - Spring Snow
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Plenty of cut logs to get over the wet and boggy spots.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: 3 trees blocking the trail. All can be circumvented or climbed over.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: The chimney is a question for some people. We had a 90lb Golden Retriever with us, who had no trouble going down the chimney (really a two section verticle) on his own. He needed a boost up the first section going home (about 4 feet verticle), but did the rest on his own. With helping hands, most dogs can do this without a problem.
Bugs
Bugs: Out, but not horrible.

Comments
Comments: Wonderful hike up Mt. Success and to the plane crash. The overlook has stunning views, don't miss this little loop, as well as the top of the mountain. We encountered surprise snow 3/4 up (degrading monorail). Unfortunately this was in a boggy spot and 3 out of 4 members of our group broke through and ended up with a foot in the water! The trail to the crash site runs through a mud bog so stay on the cut logs! Our Golden who likes water and mud became a mud monster (brown on the bottom, tan on top). I'm grateful for the streams close to the car to mostly wash him off. The crash site was amazing. Not a mile away as all trails indicates. Maybe half a mile at most. Our whole trip clocked at 7 miles total from the trailhead and back.
