Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The two major crossings after the Black Pond Bushwhack were not easy if you wanted to have perfectly dry feet. We walked up stream a bit to find a better place to cross for both crossings. We were able to rock hop, but a few of the rocks were submerged a few inches. You definitely want to use poles. The current is strong.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There are many blowdowns on the Black Pond Bushwhack. Up along the ridge, close to the Owl’s Head summit, there are many blowdowns but easy enough to walk around.
Dog-Related Notes

Bugs
Bugs: None! Too cold and windy.

Comments
Comments: It was a chilly, windy day, but perfect for Owl’s Head. The trails were mostly dry with some areas of mud, but not too bad. We saw our first bit of monorail after the junction of Owl’s Head Path and Brutus, shortly after the large boulder. We did not have to use our spikes, but the monorail was very hard and slick due to the cold temperatures. We were able to walk on the side of the ice. Heading up the slide, the rocks were dry.
