Comments
Comments: Took tuckerman trail up to base of ravine & chatted with some skiers. This section could be barebooted for significant portion, but still some compacted snow on steeper areas past hut, so micros prob a safe bet for a few min. Strong NW winds & periods of snow/sleet made for difficult conditions, but I could see no snow above treeline on boott spur link so I proceeded up. Nice compacted snow would have some posthole frustration in spruces lower down on link on warm day, but micros were perfect on cold day. Could use snowshoes for postholes, but prob not worth carrying for 15 min of use. Area near treeline challenging due to compacted snow & ice. Would have felt more confident with crampons, but enough trees to hold onto & monorail was melting so some dry spots. Def crampons to descend link ATM unless snow became much slushier on warm day. At boott spur junction knew quickly wind too high to ascend further so headed back to car. Went back to bareboot for period above treeline & then micros below treeline for good while because of slick patches. Another humbling & memorable day in Whites!
