I had originally planned to go across the whole ridge, but it was hotter than I expected and I went through most of my water pretty quick, so I just did an up-and-back to the middle peak, picking up the northern spine directly to the highest point. Did not find a jar. On the descent, I went a little east of my ascent and found more open woods with sawn trees...ski glades! Took that down to about 2000', passing by some impressive cliffs and ledges to the west, then picked up my original line back to the car. I don't know if this is a "better" or "quicker" route than Smarts Brook Trail. Like Brown Ash Swamp Mtn, there were a lot of moss-covered rocks with hidden holes. |
