Trails: Dicey’s Mill Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Friday, May 19, 2023
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Pretty large parking lot but I would assume it fills up on busy summer weekends. There are no parking signs along the road to the lot so get there early. It definitely wasn’t full today. A couple of other cars when we arrived and left.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow/Ice - Small Patches
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: One major crossing made east and safe with a large and small log. Most people can walk over it easily but, to make sure my kids didn’t fall in, we butt scooted and crawled across which worked fine also.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Few blowdowns, easy to navigate around. I assisted two guys with removing one large tree that had fallen down across the trail.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw a few very well behaved pups on trail with owners
Bugs
Bugs: No bugs in the morning but they were out in full force down low in the early evening.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: We found a section of trekking pole which we placed at the trail map kiosk lost and found at the trail parking lot.

Comments
Comments: My kids and I took Dicey’s Mill up the Passaconaway Summit and absolutely loved it! I’ve been stalking the trail conditions for Dicey’s and overall they’re really good. Mostly dry trail. Some mud down low some running water in higher sections and in the last 1/4 of a mile or so there is some remaining ice, snow and monorail. Spikes could be used but we never put ours on because there was a fair amount of rock and we felt safe without them by taking our time and using our trekking poles. Snowshoes are absolutely not necessary. We turned onto the Walden Trail to cost the larger view but that section of trail clearly hadn’t been visited as much over the winter and had a very elevated and somewhat tricky monorail so we skipped that. Spikes could be helpful to that section.

Overall great shape and almost in summer trail conditions!
