Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Monday, May 22, 2023
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at the Bennett St TH. Ton of room on both ends of this trail, they are 2.75 miles apart. Good to do this roadwalk early in the day as it gets a lot of sun exposure.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: There were a lot. I gave up and walked straight through the first of many, Ryan stayed dry the whole time. He only had to plastic bag his legs once though, there was just one section that couldn't be rock hopped even if you have outrageous reflexes like Ryan.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Well marked outside of the wilderness boundary, still plenty easy to follow within boundary. Due for some bog bridges across the west side of the trail with a ton of standing water.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: We saw a bunch who were siked! Someone who lives on Whiteface Intervale road had a gorgeous Aussie get loose and when we said hi to her we picked off a tick, if you're reading this.
Bugs
Bugs: UggHH. No black flies, crazy mosquitoes though. They bit.

Comments
Comments: Really enjoyed the wilderness feel with a much lower effort than the majority of wilderness trails. The east side followed the Whiteface River, somewhat rugged on the edges at times and the west side was real wet and had a ton of high water crossings. Nothing dangerous just hard to rock hop unless you are tiger in disguise (I am not, Ryan is).

The shelter area was gorgeous as was the pond. I can totally see how an approach from either side, but particularly the west side, would be an excellent backpacking trip with kids or new hikers!

Great day and a BLOG POST for ya'll!
