| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Agree with the fabulous Bubbles the Hiker report from 2 days ago. That new monster that is 0.5 miles in from the trailhead is going to need a chainsaw for it’s many obstructing limbs. It’s really hard to get around/over/under. |

As always Layla looked like she was having a blast! |

The big news is the huge change to the main water crossing. It was previously wide and shallow; it is now narrow and deep. It appears that a very large tree fell before or during the storm with the 5 days of heavy rain, partially obstructing debris and rocks from being swept downstream in the deluge. This widened the bank and therefore deepened the channel. It looked really odd to me, as it wasn’t what I am used to seeing, and I did have to stand there for quite a few moments to figure it out. Photos are on FB, and in my IG story.
It looks like someone artfully added some logs, to the crossing, and that combined with some very tall boulders makes a once tedious and sometimes questionable crossing into a much easier task.
Other then the crossing, it’s all what you will expect. Unavoidable mud up to the crossing, no monorail until just below Signal Ridge (which itself is clear) and then intermittent monorail to the summit. I wore spikes for the monorail; my friends are awesome and were able to speedily hike without them. :) |
