| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
No problem parking at either trailhead mid-morning. The short access road into Black Mtn. Trail is a little rough and has a hump in places so regular cars should use care. Do not park by the last house on Howe Hill Rd. |

Significant erosion on both trails. A few tiny leaner blowdowns on Black Mtn. Trail. Looks like blowdowns on Chippewa were cleared recently. |

I've hiked this mountain many times but had never done a traverse of the whole thing until today.
Trail conditions were mainly dry with just a few minor spots of mud here and there. We retreated to an off-trail ledge for lunch and were accompanied by all of the black flies. No matter, the spectacular views were worth it. Absolutely perfect weather today!
For the final day of a gorgeous holiday weekend, the trails here were pretty quiet.
This hike marked the 300th time I've climbed a past or present peak on the 52WAV list. |
