Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The most significant crossings (Beaver Brook) were relatively easy rock hops.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Couple of blowdowns along the Beaver Brook cascades which didn't pose much of an issue. Couple more blowdowns on Beaver Brook Trail between the Asquam Ridge Trail and the flank of Mt. Blue. The Hurricane Trail west of the Carriage Road had several blowdowns, a couple of which were developing herd paths around them. This part of the Hurricane Trail was also a bit overgrown in places, but not too bad. Beaver Brook Trail could use a few fresh white blazes. However, all trails were easy to follow.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw several on the Gorge Brook Trail, which would be the most suitable route up Moosilauke for them.
Bugs
Bugs: Black flies and mosquitoes emerged mid-morning- especially in the wilds of the Hurricane Trail. Repellent generally kept them at bay.

Comments
Comments: Banner day to be exploring Mt. Moosilauke- with clear skies and unusually light winds. The lack of wind was partially responsible for the ongoing presence of bugs, but this was a minor price to pay. I ascended Moosilauke twice- first by Beaver Brook, and next by Glencliff after taking the Gorge Brook Trail down and the Hurricane Trail across. It was an interesting and strenuous route. I had never been up Beaver Brook before, and was pleasantly surprised both by the beauty of the cascades, and the lack of exposure / intimidation factor on the steep rock ledges alongside them. It's a difficult trail to be sure, but was a straightforward ascent and descent- noting that the rocks were generally dry today. There were a few small patches of deteriorating monorail on a couple sections of the Beaver Brook Trail (below the Ridge Trail junction, and in the woods shortly before reaching treeline), and on the very last stretch of the Glencliff Trail just before emerging on the Carriage Road, but no reason to even consider microspikes at this point. The eastern section of the Hurricane Trail was beautiful and serene. The western section was much less civilized, didn't really have any redeeming views, and served as a means to an end.
