Whoa. They’re back, but we permethrined-up at the start. Not as bad at the summits as descenders warned us but upon return in the late afternoon after the 1.5 mi ledge point they were hungry and we had to reapply, an even then they swarmed the minute you stopped. |

I agree with whereisizzy - Mt. Cube beats Smarts on the views, especially North which was well worth the 0.4 mi trek. Wildfire haze obscured Jay and the further VT peaks today but the silhouette of the Long Trail was like a layer of distant hope, beckoning. And the Moosilauke, Hancocks, Osceolas and the Tri’s view from North was great.
Small, doable mud about 0.2-0.5 mi in but that’s it.
Stopped at the general store in Fairlee VT to buy a paper map but the clerk said they’ve been out of stock for months. (yes I’m old enough to still collect paper maps, and use them even.) Filed for future reference that it might be nice to journey on other Cross-Rivendell sections. |
