Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Lots of room at Pinkham Notch.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The first water crossing on the Huntington Ravine Trail has some boulders that are a bit too far apart for me to write “easy rock hop,” though I watched a couple leap across them as if they were easy. I went across no problem but it was a smidgen stressful to have to leap so far in a no fall zone. So I will write “rock hoppable.”
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The Huntington Ravine Trail does not have any major obstructive blowdowns. The Fire Road has two crawl-overs (one of which ripped my hiking pants, dag nabbit).
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: None on these trails.
Bugs
Bugs: Blissfully none today, though it might have been too early for them.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: I packed out a flannel shirt and long john pants that looked like they had been on the Fire Road from the winter. I dropped them off at the Lost and Found at the Pinkham Visitor Center.

Comments
Comments: I hiked up Huntington Ravine Trail until the uppermost intersection with the Fire Road, and then hiked down the Fire Road. Huntington Ravine Trail is very straightforward and well marked. The views of the Cutler River are really terrific. The Fire Road is grown over in places and there are some pretty righteous rocky scrambles near the upper end. There are no blazes or trail signs of any kind, and the intersection of the Fire Road and Tuckerman Ravine Trail is not labeled. If you hike this, GPS (I use Gaia) is helpful just to confirm that you are in the right place. I stopped and took a look at the Harvard Cabin and the “clubhouse,” and did note the sign that specifically stated that one is not to wear golf spikes in the clubhouse. Ha ha!!
Lots of people on the lower part of Tuckerman Ravine Trail enjoying the waterfalls, a few that went out and back to Hermit Lake, and a group of two planning to ascend to Big George via Huntingtons.
