Date of Hike: Wednesday, May 31, 2023
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking at the Lonesome Lake lot was fine today. About half full.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Only water crossings were tiny with bridges or bog boards.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: An occasional fallen tree here or there but easy enough to step over. Overall the trails were in good condition. There was an odd section coming down Kinsman Ridge where there are now two trails and it is hard to tell which is the real trail until you get down past some crazy roots.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Did not see any dogs today. The steep big rock sections of Hi-Cannon and Kinsman Ridge might be tricky for many dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: Black flies were out. If I kept moving, they mostly stayed off. But when I stopped to enjoy the view in the sun, or when I went into the lake for a cool down, the black flies really feasted upon me in spite of bug spray.

Comments
Comments: Beautiful hot day with dry conditions for all the steep rocks on these trails. I was afraid these trails might be too much for me but for the most part I enjoyed my time and felt within my ability range. Going up Hi-Cannon was delightful with fun rocks and nice views. Kinsman Ridge was crazy rocky and steep at the beginning coming down from Cannon but then settled down to a normal rocky level. I was happy to turn left onto Lonesome Lake trail for an easier time of it going down to the lake. What a day for a swim!
