Met trailslippah after his climbing session on Lower Slab, in the evening for a fine night in the woods.
We scouted out some more climbing routes along N. Mountain Trail and made our way up to the view point where the firetower used to stand on the northeastern spur of N. Mountain.
On the way back we decided to whack up Rock Ridge. Started the whack at HOL after the stream crossing near the northern swamp. Open woods and easy whacking, with a few slabs to avoid because of steep dropoffs. Picked up a herd path around 600', which runs along the property line and is blazed in blue. The summit itself suffered a fire, likely caused by campers, last summer. The damage wasn't too extensive but there is a lot of burnt wood strewn about.
It's a little tricky getting around the summit to continue along the ridge in the south east direction, we circumnavigated the cliffs to the north. The way down we followed some yellow flagging through the cliffs with a couple of tricky down climbs. I believe the yellow flagging was left by the fire fighters who fought last years fire. Staying on the ridge might have been easier. We picked the trail back up exactly at the Lower Slabs.
The moon was bright and I didn't need my headlamp for the hike out at 9pm. |
