High Watch Rd turns to dirt shortly before the parking area and is kind of rough. Most vehicles should be okay though. I can’t remember if you could park anywhere along the paved portion of the road; there may have been signs with the Green Mountain Treatment Center saying that you couldn’t. The actual parking area is not terribly well defined and it was a little hard to know where to park especially without blocking areas for others that might come and park. Room for maybe a half dozen or so carefully parked cars. One other when we arrived at 10am and a few others shortly past noon. |

The trail is well blazed in orange and I think there were inky trivial stepover blowdowns that have likely been there a long time. Good signage at the summit. No signage other than “High Watch Preserve” so make sure you go on the correct road (Highwatch Rd continues NE) at the very bottom but a sign for the Highwatch Trail can be found a short ways in. |

Tons of mosquitos when we got out of the car so I put on bug spray but they were nonexistent after that. No ticks. |

Nice little SNH redline with the parents :) Things were wet but not terribly muddy and it didn’t rain on us at all. We did an OAB to the summit along High Watch Trail, and my folks also did and OAB to Hanson Top while I headed back down. Grades varied but overall I’d call it pretty moderate. The trail follows an old road and splits at times to avoid some rockier, steeper areas. We were treated to a view from inside the tower as it was manned and we were invited inside. Very cool! |
