Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Everything was in pretty good shape overall, thanks to the fine work of Friends Of Pisgah, who were out today working on a bridge project along South Woods Trail. I cut out one small blowdown tangle on North Ponds Trail. Lily Pond Trail has three blowdowns that were too big for my saw, and vegetation is encroaching into the corridor is several spots.

Bugs
Bugs: The good news: No black flies or ticks! The bad news: Holy fudgin' mosquitoes! The head net was on the entire day. I took a snack break at Fullam Pond and oddly enough, that was the only spot with no flying bitey things.

Comments: Today's wandering about in Pisgah State Park ended up being nearly 12 miles. Much easier to do longer miles here than in the Whites! :D My main objective was to walk the new Habitat Loop and then I just kept going from there. Once you get out into the middle of the park, the forest feels really remote and wilderness-ey.

Along South Woods Trail I encountered the Friends Of Pisgah who were dismantling an old bridge in preparation for a new one. These volunteers do excellent work on all of the trails within Pisgah's 13,300 acres and it shows! Thank you! Also really great to finally meet Kim Nilsen in person out here.

The trails were damp but mud wasn't really an issue. A few light showers passed through but there was no steady rain. I did hear thunder earlier in the day but it was way off in the distance.
