Date of Hike: Sunday, June 11, 2023
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Sabbaday Brook Trail lot only had 5 or so cars at 7:30 am. Mid afternoon it was packed with cars and motorcycles checking out the falls. Road parking near Pine Brook Bend had under 10 cars both times we went by.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Half a dozen water crossings near the bottom of Sabbaday Brook. All can be crossed with rock hopping but needed some inventive paths in a few spots. Better to hit this section the way down than up due to risk of soggy boots.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A notable number of pine needles and small branches on the trail within a mile of both summits. Looks like winter was hard on the Tripyramids.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Lots of well behaved dogs in very good spirits.
Bugs
Bugs: So. Many. Mosquitos. At the summits. Near water. Near sunshine. Attacking our mouths and eyeballs. We stopped for less than 5 minutes of the whole hike due to the bugs. Bring spray and maybe a net.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Newer teal sweatshirt hanging on a tree about a mile from the Sabbaday parking lot.

Comments
Comments: Beautiful day to be out on the Tripyramids! The road walk from Sabbaday parking lot to Pine Brook Bend trail goes fast as do the first 1.5 - 2 miles of the trail. The climb up to the Scaur intersection is a great stairmaster workout but footing was good and mosquitos were light compared to the rest of the trip.
At the Scaur intersection the bugs picked up considerably and remained heavy the rest of the trip. Views from North Tri were limited as always, but clear skies from Middle allowed views from Chocura to Tecumseh and beyond.
The top mile of Sabbaday Brook Trail was the slowest going due to a combination of steepness, wet trails, fallen pine needles/branches and small bits of erosion. Take it slow and you'll be fine. Everything past that is in good shape but the water crossings do require some planning and hopping to get across without soaking a boot or two.
Bring bug spray. It is mosquito season.
