Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The crossing near the start of Blueberry Ridge is never a rock hop but the water only came midway up my trail runners and felt fabulous at the end of this loop hike!!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: This was a working hike for the Chatham Trail Association work weekend. We know about the VW bus sized blowdown on Bickford Brook near the upper end of the Bickford Slides loop (and so does the USFS). For now you have to clamber over this monster. Other than that we completed brushing, drainage clearing and blowdown removal on these trails (two groups worked on the lower parts on Saturday and our work party did the upper parts on Sunday). We also removed an illegal fire ring newr the summit of Speckled.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: We saw a few, today, and they were having lots of fun.
Bugs
Bugs: I have never had so many mosquito bites. Ok, fine, crawling under massive groupings of hobble bush to brush it out was probably not my smartest decision ever, but seriously, the bugs are really terrible right now.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Our group packed out a really hefty dog leash made from climbing gear.

Comments
Comments: Loop hike to perform trail maintenance on the upper section of the loop. We saw about a dozen hikers and noted a family resting on the start of the ledge climb on Blueberry who didn’t seem to have enough water. We offered but they declined; the USFS gentleman at the Brickett Place building was made aware of the situation before we left (and he remembered seeing the family when they had arrived). This is a fabulous loop hike and though none of us had views on our Saturday work hikes, due to the rain, we were spoiled with great views on this today.
