Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: I just put on crocs and waded for Israel River (Castle Trail crossing), Israel River (Israel Ridge Path crossing), and Cascade Brook (Israel Ridge Path). Rocks were too wet/slippery for me to have any interest in trying to rock hop. Nothing like icy cold mountain water on your tired feet.
Trail Maintenance Notes

Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Cascade Brook crossing of Israel Ridge would've been impossible with our dog.. at least on this particular rainy day with wet rocks.
Bugs
Bugs: Mostly cool enough except end of the second day at low elevation the mosquitos were driving me bananas.

Comments
Comments: A lovely overnight trip base camping at The Perch and going around in circles :) Brought me to 94.2%! Day 1 was off-and-on rain... these kinds of days never fail to wow me. Is there anything better than standing at a view completely in a cloud, just to have it open up to 360 views seconds later?! Emerald Bluff is a gem. All of the trails were quite wet from the rain, so the hiking was pretty slow. Never trust a wet root! Especially slow-going navigating all the wet rocks. See above for water crossing notes. Certainly no shortage of water for drinking. Snow free on all trails, though I did see one teeny tiny snowball lingering on Grey Knob Trail. I was the only one at the Perch on a Saturday night. Loved setting up base camp there and then doing side trips. Did a 1.2 mile loop of Israel Ridge Path and Randolph Path up to their junction. Next day did a 3.8 mile figure 8 up Randolph path, down Grey Knob, down Hincks, up Spur, up Grey Knob, back to camp via Perch Path. Had a lovely chat with another hiker at the Perch before heading down! Accidentally missed The Link from Israel Ridge Path, so I just continued down to Bowman and walked the rail trail back to Lowe's. Just 4 more trips left! Next up.. Cohos thru hike!
