There is some parking at the gate about 7/10ths of a mile past the Mountain Pond Parking area. Gates are open all the way and Slippery Brook Road is in good enough shape suitable for all cars. |

 | Surface Conditions: |
Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant |
 | Recommended Equipment: |
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
rock hop-able or bog bridged |
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Forest Road is fine for the first 2 miles and then when you take a left into the woods along the brook the trail needs to be brushed all the rest of the way. There are a few blow downs that should be cut out too. The spur trail to Eastman's summit is in good condition. |

Becca and I must be nuts we hiked for two hours in the rain, suffering in quite a few hard downpours to boot! But it wasn't cold so we marched on and we were rewarded with the sun coming out as soon as we arrived at the summit. It maybe a longer route but it is a nice route that climbs at at a study grade and the sound of Slippery Brook's cascading waters was nice. Lots of Lady Slippers and spring flowers along the trail. No surprise we didn't see anyone all day but Becca saw a Mountain Biker just as we were ending our hike. We only hiked the Mountain Pond Loop Trail into the Pond about 1/3 of a mile and we carried our pack rafts in with us. After another short downpour we inflated our boats and paddle all around the pond. A pair of Loons toyed with us, we saw one person set up to camp along the shore, we couldn't see much of the shelter from the water--trees and brush have really grown in. The views from the middle of the pond are amazing, Doubleheads, Baldfaces, EAstman, Slope--total joy! The Ledge Brewery is right on Town Hall Road so of course we had to stop in! Fun to have a beer with the hipsters. |
