Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of space at the Second Connecticut Dam, road side on the other end.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Bog board walking across swampy areas, a brand new bridge over a stream near the southern end.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: CTA got a lot of work done here. Evidence of so many blowdowns dispatched recently. Great signs, too! And nice bridge!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Probably good. Please remember that a lot of the Cohos is on private land. Don't let your dog get swept away, either.
Bugs
Bugs: Dickensian, as in the opening line to A Tale of Two Cities. It was the best of times - on trail except for black flies showing up to the falls. It was the worst of times - the parking lot by the dam! I have never seen so many blackflies in one space!
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Some work gloves and a pink shirt (or shorts, didn't really check) near the registry at the falls. Left it there.

Comments
Comments: Falls in the River Trail (Cohos), spur path to rt 3

Please be aware that this trail starts below a dam. They may release water at anytime and the level will quickly rise. They have several signs posted about this along the trail where it is close to the river.

Such a beautiful trail, frequently hugs the river. River itself constantly changes in these few miles, ranging from wide and peaceful to white water areas. A few swampy areas, CTA has some great bog boards here. Covered with chicken wire to give better traction. Very peaceful Great North Woods vibe. CTA has a registry by the falls. By signing it, it gives them an idea of how many folks are using it. This helps them when they are requesting help for the trail. Don't have to give much info, either.

Footbed is soft for most of the trail. The end near Moose Alley Trail goes through a recently logged area. This wide open area gives some great views. A very short spur path takes you to Rt. 3. If you start here, simply park on the side of the road.
