Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The first Downes Brook crossing was very difficult. Exposed rocks were icy and in most locations, set too far apart for a normal stride. We went way down on the assent and way up on the return and found okay crossing spots. One of us lost/retrieved a pole - slid into the water on the return, but we managed to get across in tact and to the parking lot where dry shoes waited.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Nothing noticeable on the UNH trail/Mt. Hedgehog hike. More significant blowdowns - all easily managed - on Mt. Potash Trail.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: We saw no dogs, only 2 other people on UNH Trail, but there should be no problems (except if your dog doesn't want to get his feet wet on the Downes Brook water crossing).

Comments
Comments: The views were great, and the weather especially mild for December. The trails were icy on most all the ledges, but especially on the descent (counterclockwise) of UNH loop and on the upper parts of the Mt Potash trail. We did not use traction, because these ledge sections are not that long and we could find a way around the worst areas. It was slow going in some sections. The Downes Brook water crossing was treacherous and we definitely pushed to get there before dark.

Another great day doing "52 with a view".
