3rd hike of the day. I took the Cohos Trail south for about 0.75, crossed the bridge that goes over the 3rd Lake inlet and immediately entered the woods. From here I went straight for the summit, about 1 mile one way. More ferns and hobblebush, and closer to the top, a handful of false summits. Last people to sign in were Teal Goat and Amy Gunn in winter. I sharpened the stubby pencils for the next guy! Went down the same way, coming out on the trail where I went in. A customs officer met me as I came back to my car and politely asked if next time, I could let him know that I'd be hiking on the border. I said I wasn't on the border, and he said hikers should check in with the station anyway. He said Canadian sensors pick up motion just even near the border. I said I'd pass on the info. Sun came out and we never got the expected rain up here. A good day collecting peaks. |
