 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
It's getting warm again, and people are coming out of the woodwork. On a Monday afternoon, I had my pick of about 3-4 parking spots in the tiny lot. I wouldn't expect that much luck on a weekend for the next three months. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
There's still a lot of water on the mountain from the recent rains. That said, the crossings are insignificant. In certain spots (mostly the Mossy Brook area) there's a lot of water if you bring a filter. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A couple places where things are getting a little overgrown, but overall, everything is in good shape.
The Forest Society is having their annual trail week during the second week of July. Sign up here: https://forestsociety.org/monadnock-trails-week |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
None allowed at Monadnock, sadly. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Yes, they're out, but today at least, they were well behaved. |

 | Comments: |
A bit past the halfway mark, it dawned on me how much I needed not to do a 4,000 footer this week. Then I spied a cedar waxwing. After that, I turned a corner on the trail, and there was a deer, calmly tucking into dinner, paying me no heed. And if that wasn't enough, I crossed paths with a hurried porcupine. I was wondering when I'd bump into a bear, because frankly, at that point, what's left in the menagerie?
Photos and a more detailed write-up are on my blog, as always. Share and enjoy! |
