Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No issues.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Aside from the well-known extensive erosion on Falling Waters and Old Bridle, there were no other issues. Of the two trails, Old Bridle is in the poorer shape; long sections of the trail are a deep trench. AMC crews have begun rebuilding the trail, and the small section completed so far is fantastic. Noted the new measures above treeline (string fencing, signs, improved scree walls) to keep people on ridge.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Black flies were a nuisance above treeline. Yikes.

Comments
Comments: I typically have avoided this hike in recent years as it just gets way too crowded for me. The last time I was up here outside of winter was 2015, so this felt like I was getting familiar with it again. But I wanted to see some of the trail work and definitely wanted to take advantage of the one-day good weather window for some time above treeline before the rain returns.

Falling Waters was wet as expected. As long as you watch your footing a bit, you'll be fine. The waterfalls were gorgeous today.

The walk across the ridge was dry.

Old Bridle was mostly dry but there were some wet ledges to watch for. Fortunately, The Agonies were dry but that basalt is super smoothed over and slippery regardless.

While there were lots of people out, the hike never felt crowded. The busiest spot was the summit of Lafayette but otherwise hikers were pretty spread out.

A beautiful bluebird day up there today and I have the sunburn to prove it. :D There was only a slight breeze and it wasn't enough to keep the bugs at bay.
