Comments: Day 2 of the Presicat Loop. Carter Moriah past Mt Hight was pretty dry, and Wildcat Ridge only had a few spots of mud. No blowdowns that I can remember. Loved chatting with several thru-hikers I passed on my way down Wildcat as they were on their way up. Original plan was to get the Wildcats, descend the Wildcat Valley Ski Trail to Halls Ledge, Cross 16, and head up Rocky Brach to the highest campsite on the Isolation Trail, then get the Presidentials from there the next day. On Thursday morning, the observatory forecast called for fog to roll in Friday morning with a chance of rain, 25mph winds increasing to 50 in the afternoon. When I got to the top of Wildcat, the Wildcat Valley trail looked rather overgrown. Probably a better choice earlier in the season, so I decided to descent via the AT and head up Glen Boulder instead. Glen boulder was dry, but tough, much steeper than I expected. At the junction of the Davis Path, I had to make a decision, head down to the Iso campsite, or press on to Washington and descend Great Gulf to camp. Fearing the forecast for the next day, I decided to go for it, figuring I could at least get Washington and bail out Friday morning, or climb back up to the ridge if the weather looked favorable. This put me over 6,000ft elevation for the day and nearly broke me. Descending Great Gulf was sketchy. Water levels are high, and you're basically in the waterfall for most of it until tree-line. Very difficult and challenging to find low risk footing. I camped at the first site I came to after the Sphinx Trail junction. In hindsight, I should have kept with my plan and descended to Iso.
