Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Can rock hop with a little dip you feet in water. Lots of running water on the trail. Wet and muddy trail was as commin as dry. 19 mile brook is raging with water (a week of rain before my hike and another week of rain coming).
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Last (4th) bridge on 19 Mile Brook consisted of 1 narrow board not really safe to cross and balance a large pack. Safer to just walk through the water. This is the way the Hut Croo goes with the heavy packs. Seems real dangerous for them. In contrast, 2nd bridge is new and very well constructed. A work of art.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Seems the dogs on trail loved the constant water crossings on 19 mile brrok trail to the hut. Didn't see any on the other trails (including up Carter Dome which is a constant stair climb).
Bugs
Bugs: Out in force! Especially at the 4 peaks (Carter Dome, Mt Height, South and Middle Carter). Many hikers wearing head nets.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Didn't find anything. But there looked to be some items left by the trail sign by others.

Comments
Comments: 19 Mile Brook to Cartner Notch Hut. Cartner-Moriah to Carter Dome. Carter Dome to Mt Height to Zeta Pass. Cartner-Moriah to South & Middle Carter. Back down Cartner-Moriah to 19 Mile Brook back to Hut

Many through hikers on the trail and at the hut. Great Croo at the hut! Caught a few hiking down those large board packs on 19-mile brook trail, no idea how they can carry all that. Temps at the hut was low 40s at night, 50-70 during the day. No breezes, so it felt hotter and didn't help with the bugs. The trail to Mt Height well worth the trip. Views are 360 degrees. South and Middle Carter have small American flags on them, likely from the Flags over the 48 a while back. There are viewpoints on all the 3 Carters near the peaks, however best views by far go to Mt Height. The best way to Mt Height is coming from Carter Done (just 100’ elevation needed, versus from Zeta Pass, which requires a rugged 700’ gain to get to the peak). Distance between South and Middle Carter is quite long (more than .6 miles indicated on All Trails), and you can see Middle Carter from South lookout. GAIA and All Trails GPS didn’t work 2nd half of 19 Mile Brook and up most of the way from Hut to Carter Dome.
