GATE CLOSED AT 6am SUNDAY
This was a first. I have never hiked Cabot with a start time later than 630 and have never seen the gate closed. There was also a padlock. Possibly this is related to the Rainbow Family Gathering planned for next weekend? Rather than wait we drove around to Mill Brook Road and hiked Unknown Pond and Kilkenny Ridge from there. I like that route and it worked out well. There were a few other cars at that trailhead; no issues with this plan. |

Some duck under and a few step over blowdowns on these trails. One has an official appearing work around. None are an issue and none appear particularly new.

We very much enjoyed hiking this quiet route. We saw a family coming down Unknown Pond Trail after a successful overnight at the pond. We also saw a few hikers on Kilkenny Ridge Trail. We view-bagged the Horn because the clouds looked like they were clearing. There was a whole lot less rain than the forecast! |
