Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The water crossing on the Dry River Cutoff Trail between the Mt Eisenhower Trail and the Dry River Trail was the sketchiest thing that I have ever crossed. I donned my water shoes and waded 3/4 of the way across with the water to my thighs. From there I needed two big steps to get to the other side and it looked like I would be waist deep. I flung my poles and backpack to safety and plunged in. It was chest deep. I lived to tell the tale. The water crossing on the Dry River Trail a few tenths of a mile above Dry River Falls was a slightly more gentle mid thigh wade. The major tributary crossing, just past the shelter, was an ankle deep wade. For comparison and planning, MWOBS has not reported rain in 36 hours. At 5am this morning the streamflow of the East Branch Pemigewasset was 600 cubic ft / second. If I had it to do again I would cross these, but best plan would really have been to give things another day or two to settle down.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Edmands Path is mostly clear and there are signs of recent maintenance and blowdown removal. Thank you! Crawford Path is in beautiful shape and I was particularly impressed by the work done on and around Mt Franklin with the wooden stairs. Mt Eisenhower Trail is a great trail. No maintenance issues or significant blowdowns to report. Dry River Trail from Dry River Cutoff to the LotC Hut. It’s a little confusing to hike across the slide (after the water crossing) - possibly there is a cairn that I didn’t see. There is a jungle gym of blowdowns on the upper 2 miles of this trail. That does not appear to be, in any way, the fault of the trail maintainers as there is copious evidence of significant recent axe and saw work. Thank you for working to keep this trail section as passable as possible!!!

Comments
Comments: We hiked up Edmands Path and along Crawford Path. I headed down Mt Eisenhower Trail and PackFlag headed toward Big George. I hiked also Dry River Connector and Dry River Trails and met up with PackFlag at the Hut. We then hiked Monroe and back down Edmands. Clouds but no rain, and lots of people on the trails (it’s Friday of Fourth of July weekend.).
