Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The second water crossing on Chandler Brook Trail is only possible with a waist-deep ford or,if you have wanton disregard for your own safety, you rock-hop on a 30 foot water-fall edge on 6 inch-sized rocks. I would avoid this crossing for the time being until water levels retreat.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few blowdowns on Chandler Brook made for same all-4s crawling. All above the second water crossing.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Ran into a 19 year old pup (!!) today on Alpine Garden.
Bugs
Bugs: manageable.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Black Jacket found on Tuck's on the way over to Alpine, placed it on a Cairn. Doubtful it made it very long before some tourist snagged it.

Comments
Comments: Been a long time since I submitted a trip report, mostly because we've been doing really popular trails last year that I didn't feel warranted a report, but also because I've been down for 6 months with a knee injury. So today it was nice to be back on some heavy bone-crunchers to see how the knee is holding up. It's doing OK. The impetus for this report is just Chandler Brook Trail; first off, it's real tough to get down in the morning when everything is wet. It's just bad all around to go down. 850ish feet in .45 miles or so to the second water crossing. And about that crossing...it's not good. It crosses at a waterfall both above and immediately below the crossing. In the current shape today, it's probably a waist deep crossing, and that water is moving. There were small sections of exposed rocks you could theoretically leap too...AT the edge of the waterfall which would almost surely result in a bad injury or death if you went over. We almost never turn around at a water crossing (though we try to avoid the worst ones in May/June anyway), I would recommend not trying to cross the middle crossing of this trail until water levels drop. The highest of the three crossings was already pretty dicey, but we kept dry.

Everything else about the day was great. Washington was surprisingly quiet for the date...the same could be said for 16 when we drove back to Dover that evening. Weird.
