Comments
Comments: Soggy day up to summit of Owl’s Head with rain the entire route. Make sure you have a good compass or map, especially if bushwhacking as there are little to no trail markers or cairns as expected. Took the black pond bushwhack to avoid any treacherous river crossings, although the ones we did were still a little tricky with fast moving water and not a lot of rocks to hop on. Took black pond trail to black pond bushwhack - accidentally veered up/straight instead of to right on bushwhack so did a little extra, but the trail is pretty obvious. Lots of running water deep mud throughout the trail. Slide was slippery as expected but not too bad with good grip shoes. There is a small cairn at the summit so you’ll know when you’ve made it. Took the Brutus Bushwhack coming down off of Owl’s Head path to avoid the slide but note that it is steep in parts and extremely muddy so easy to slip on. Took roughly 17.6 miles all in with the bushwhacks and finished in 8 hours 20 minutes. Another 4,000 footer to cross off the list!
