Pinkham to Highland via the Southern Presis is a trip worth taking. From the start of Boott Spur to the reconnection with Tuckerman had almost no people on it with the added bonus of getting Davis Path entirely to myself. The summit of Washington is what you'd expect on a summer day, but at least the pizza was good :)
From Washington through the Southern Presis is mostly in very good shape, but don't mess with mother nature! Getting stuck in a thunder and lightning storm in the ridge between Franklin and Eisenhower is not an experience I want to relive. The clouds moved in fast and hit hard. The good news - a very close lightning strike provides outstanding motivation to trail run as much of the trail as possible at Olympic level speeds.
From Eisenhower to Jackson the trail is muddy and wet in spots, but overall you won't get your feet wet unless you mis-step. The trail from Jackson to 302 is a bit wetter and very muddy, but can be handled without too much trouble.
Be safe. Trust that dark clouds are bad clouds. |
