Today turned out to be a very good day to tag Owls Head despite the rain. Lincoln Woods trail is muddy but mostly in decent condition. The trail to Black Pond is also in decent condition despite some major mud patches. Most surprising was the Black Pond bushwhack - more of a well defined herd path at this point that was very fast today.
Lincoln Brook trail was more of the same - fast, wet, decent shape considering. The three crossings weren’t too bad but did require taking shoes off.
The slide is marked by two cairns growing to a decent size. I had forgotten how quickly it gains elevation. Despite the rain the slide was in decent condition to climb up. The top is a bit muddy but fine. Opted to go back down Brutus and was glad I did. It’s steep and a little slippery but overall in very good condition.
It’s weird to say, but now is a good time to do Owls Head despite all the rain. Take the Black Pond bushwhack, bring Crocs and you’ll be just fine. |
