I wouldn't have added yet another trip report for Moosilauke for the same date, but did so to cover the route down, via the Carriage Road, spur to the south peak, and Snapper. The upper Carriage Road, from the top down to the Glencliff trail intersection, is fast-moving. On the upper, nearly level part of the ridge, there are some brief flat stretches of very firm and practically dry dirt, which would perhaps be muddy right after some rain. Once on the downward pitch, it's a matter of picking one's way through the rocks, with relatively little in the way of just dirt between them. Snapper is a delightfully easy cruise through the low woods, with just a few lingering muddy spots, back to Gorge Brook and the rocks. |
