It was a hot and humid day. We started on Lincoln Woods, took Black Pond Trial to the Black Pond Bushwhack. It was a little tricky to follow at first due to the mud, but having the Alltrails map open helped. After that, the bushwhack was easy to follow to Lincoln Brook Trail. Very happy to have taken the bushwhack both out and back to cut off miles and avoid water crossings. Lincoln Brook went quicker than expected with some avoidable mud and a few water crossings that just required taking time and care to cross safely. My husband slipped on a rounded wet rock - changed from trail sneakers to boots after that.
I enjoyed the slide. It was rewarding to go up after so many low miles. The exposed part of the slide is short and then it goes into the trees while still very steep. Our dog needed help navigating some big jumps in 1 or 2 spots but otherwise did well. Nice views on the slide and a good rest at the summit. We took the Brutus bushwhack on the way down. Easy to spot the big mossy boulder with 2 cairns on top. It was steep trail with roots and ground (few rocks).. in good condition.
Our pup started acting strange. She turned out to have chafing under her arm from her harness. She may have taken a few big jumps on the slide and then irritated it more. We carried her in our pack from the Black Pond Bushwhack out. First time she had any incident on the trail and very glad we were able to get her out safely (she was doing much better the next day!). Heavy rain on the way out. Glad to be back on Lincoln Woods for the rain. It felt refreshing but after getting drenched we just wanted to see that bridge!
An eventful hike for us. Happy with the conditions and bushwhacks.
