Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I guess it has been a while as the lot at Ripley falls is now a state park fee area - $5 per vehicle to park. Per usual cars lined the road but was lucky to find an open spot at the actual trailhead.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All easy rock hops but lots of water on the trail so boots will get wet
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: On the stretch after the junction with Willey Range trail after you top out on the ridge and head down - there are numerous bog bridges that are beyond their prime that have nails that are sticking out and could be a tripping hazard so keep an eye out. There are two sections of bog bridge that are now submerged under mud and water that you will need to take care to stay on - we used our poles to find and keep on top of them - a missed step here and you are in some serious mud!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: A good dog hike with lots of water but they will get wet and muddy!
Bugs
Bugs: Surprisingly we didn't encounter any all day.

Comments
Comments: It been a few years since I've been to Ethan Pond so it was time for a visit. Trail was a mix of conditions dry to start but then stretches of light mud and water. Once past the Willey Range trail and over the top its water and mud all the way! Fortunately the bog bridges and strategically place rocks keep you out of the worst of it. See maintenance note many old bog bridges have nails sticking out that can be a tripping hazard and two sections have sunk into the water and mud - they are still supportive and you'll want to stay on them or risk sinking. Given all the recent rain everything is really green! Some a few hikers out mostly coming down form Willey - Had a half hour to ourselves sitting on the rocks overlooking the pond before another pair of hikers and their pooch arrived. I've forgotten how isolated this area seems - the only sound was the wind and waves on the pond.
