| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We parked at the intersection of Bear Mountain Road and Panorama Lane, and walked up Bear Mountain Road (the old Alexandria-Hebron Turnpike) to the Elwell Trail. Bear Mountain Road is very rutted and washed out in sections further up (south), where it begins to climb to the saddle between Sugarloaf and Bear Mountain, and it was just easier to park down low and walk rather than bottom out the car. |

| Comments: |
Entire section of Elwell Trail from Bear Mountain to Oregon Mountain Trail intersection has been brushed, blowdowns (20? 25?) removed, and cairns rebuilt. In some areas where blowdowns were a common/frequent occurrence (because of logging from several years ago), trail was relocated. The corridor for these relocations is obvious, but they have not been blazed yet (we will take care of this in the next few weeks, along with refreshes for existing corridor, but please do be aware). Power line cut has been brushed and new trail stakes installed to guide one across the cut.
With this work, and going forward, the entire ~10+ miles of Elwell Trail from Newfound Lake to the intersection with the Mowglis Trail is actively maintained. |
