Comments
Comments: So that's what if feels like to hike with dry feet? I had almost forgotten. This was my first hike this year (I've probably done a dozen) where my feet didn't get wet (and stay wet) after the first few miles. This is a breathtaking trail and it's in excellent shape with only a few small spots of minor mud. The best hike I've done outside the 48 (and it's better than a lot of the 48). The scramble up South Baldface was super fun. Water was trickling at the Baldface Shelter. I could definitely see this source drying up if there is a dry spell. I had to search around for a good spot to avoid scooping from a shallow pool. Fill up here as this is your last chance to get water until you descend back down. The views of the Wild River Valley and east to Maine are spactacular. I opted to skip Eagle Crag and descend via BIcknell Ridge as it seemed more scenic, and it was. I think the Circle trail has little exposure or views on the descent. Bicknell Ridge has what looks to be a relatively new re-route. I looked down at my watch and saw I was off trail, yet was looking at blazes that looked fairly new. Took a plunge in the Emerald Pool on the return, which was quite refreshing. Lots of people around that spot. Lots of people out hiking today, too.
