Mostly a hike, with some occasional jogging/running when I felt the urge. Decided to follow the blazes on the fan this time instead of going straight up it. Wow... terrible route, really overgrown... a bit of a bushwhack. The infringing shrubbery made it surprisingly difficult to negotiate the boulders. Took my time on the headwall and everything above it because the soles of my shoes had become wet as a result of various mud, water, and damp ground in some places. The Nelson Crag Trail is a pretty fun descent. Perfect weather; beautiful dark, low clouds. Saw only 2 other souls today: a couple of nice ladies I met on Tuckerman Ravine trail not too far from the trailhead and briefly conversed with. Other than that, hermit thrushes, swamp sparrows, northern flickers, vireos, a raven, and a decent-sized slug were the only other animals I encountered. |
