Was very worried about the weather with 30% thunderstorms after 4PM and we started at 3:30. First time I have ever risked dicey weather with the kiddo. I challenged Margaret to hike up "as fast as you possibly can" and she made the summit in 60 minutes, 45 seconds. She rarely surprises me at this point but I was beyond incredibly impressed with the effort on a two mile, 2K steep trail. She was really hyped. We enjoyed the summit for 10 minutes and hustled down, got a quick foot dip in the brook adjacent to the trailhead (under the bridge at Cohos kiosk-AWESOME swimming hole here) and ten minutes later the skies unloaded. No lightning/thunder but sheets of rain. We said a quick prayer to keep us dry as we started the hike and the good Lord delivered. Of note we probably saw over 1,000 dragonflies swarming the entirety of Nash Stream Road. It was an insane amount of dragonflies and very cool to witness. Hike #2 on the afternoon and 3rd in 24 hours (Ascutney yesterday), and this marked #51/52WAV for Margaret. We are really looking forward to completing the list together on Mt. Monadnock ASAP! |
