Date of Hike: Saturday, August 12, 2023
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Main lot full at 7am. Plenty of room in overflow lot just behind the bridge.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Multiple water crossings, little high and fast moving but easily navigated or rock hopped to prevent wet feet.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Well maintained. One blowdown of double white birch a little less than a mile into Zealand trail. Was able to straddle over one and limbo under the other.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Great trail for pups. Besides Barley, only saw one other friendly happy hiking pup near summit.
Bugs
Bugs: A few small black flies in Zeacliff that cleared with light breeze
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found men’s XL sweatpants and white bandana about 0.5 mikes from trail head. Retrieved on my return and left at trailhead sign/bench.

Comments
Comments: Beautiful day out to Zealand. Zealand Falls flowing nicely thanks to recent rain. The stream crossings are manageable with good balance, rock hopping, and the added stability of my trekking poles. Good deal of mud along the Twinway between the hut and summit of Zealand. Zeacliff was gorgeous and had clear views for at least 100 miles. Great hike for pups as the rock encountered is not sharp or as challenging as other white mountain hikes (as long as the dog has good stamina for the almost 12 mile trek).
