I am so glad I waited to do this hike later in the day. For starters, I got a parking spot in the depot area itself. I liked that as I could use the facilities. Downside is that the depot closed before I got back to my car. Secondly, the hikers! SO.MANY.HIKERS.AND.KIDS.AND.DOGS. Thankfully, all of them were descending. I lost count after 70. Only a handful of people coming up when I was descending.
The trail itself is a lovely trail, but it's wet and definitely muddy in many areas (how those in flip flops and white tennis shoes manage this, I'll never know). But it's a gentle hike and the mushrooms were out in show. I loved that. Oh, and the drainage pipes were all on display. In winter you wouldn't see this.
The water crossings were easy, but the smaller kids needed help from the parents. One kid lost a shoe (croc), but it was recovered easily.
The summit had more trash of any mountain I've hiked thus far. Lots of toilet paper, wrappers, food crumbs, even hats (in all fairness it was blustery).
Not many people said hello in passing--only the small kids and more seasoned (read: older) hikers. :) |
