Trails: Signal Ridge Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Monday, August 14, 2023
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The lot, just about 2.0 miles in on Sawyer River Rd, is fairly large. At 8am there were only maybe half dozen vehicles there, about the same at 3pm.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The main crossing, just before the trail junction, wasn't too bad. Where the trail comes to the crossing, there are several boulders well above the water, for careful rock-hopping (one a long reach - poles certainly help us old folk). Approaching those boulders is a dead log firmly in place and useful. The second crossing is hardly that. It's mainly a minor stream flowing between a lot of rocks of various size, and mostly a walk-across.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails are in decent shape. There are some patches of mud in low places, with a lot of trail creep going around them. Much of the mud has firmed up a lot, allowing one to walk across those patches without sinking in much at all. There are a couple of step-over trees that are blow-downs or fell down due to root rot.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw one, well-behaved, and on leash.
Bugs
Bugs: There were some, but the DEET applied at the start kept them mostly off me. It wasn't really a buggy hike at all.

Comments
Comments: Nice hike, with weather up top much better than NOAA's "mostly obscured" prediction for those over 4k ft. Nice long views all around.
