4 Soldiers Path: 2 handsaw-capable blowdowns. Maybe some brushing through the logging swath? Bog bridges were for the most part in-tact, just super slippery.
Underhill Path: could use some brushing towards the base. Ditto on the bog bridges.
Carlton Notch: So gorgeous. New blazes looking sharp! |

Quite a remote day for us! First things first: we should've road walked down to pasture path to start this hike rather than using Jimtown. Though the old road starts fine, it rapidly grew thicker, deeper in mud, and had a ton of sharp raspberry bushes.
Four Soldiers was generally very pleasant. Plenty of moose prints and other evidence of wildlife, but we didn't see any. Other than the logging swath where the grass is thick and high, really straightforward!
The part of Four Soldiers after Hunters Pass Spur rd. was super unique. Bog bridges were hazardous as heck but their moss-engulfed color was too stunning to be upset at all the "whoops!" that came out with the near-falls.
After we turned from the Pond (super peaceful), we headed up Underhill which wasn't as well marked but if there wasn't a blaze there was a bog bridge so it was clear where the trail was. Gained the ridge nicely.
Carlton Notch Trail was just a total stunner. Really loved it, lots of rich greenery! Popped out right @ the car without the leg abuse of the logging road too.
