Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: You can take the black pond herd path to avoid two river crossings. The water was high, but we were able to cross without removing our shoes.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The trails and herd paths were in pretty good condition, but just note that the trail to the top of Owl’s Head is not an official trail, so expect some more gnarly conditions.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Dogs will probably have a good time early in the hike, but the slide going up Owl’s Head is harder, and your dog might have a difficult time. Please pick up after your dog, as well.
Bugs
Bugs: Just about three mosquitoes on the trail. Yay!!!!????????????
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: We found a lost hiking pole tip and a sock. (The sock was hanging up and it SMELLED!)????

Comments
Comments: We took the slide up and the Brutus Bushwhack down to avoid the slide. Here’s a helpful rhyme to help you remember where the Brutus Bushwhack is: “When you see a hanging stocking, to the left you should be walking.” You’ll see a gray sock hanging on a tree branch. Also, don’t be scared of how long this hike is. If you break up the mileage, it really helps.????
