Date of Hike: Sunday, August 20, 2023
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Sandwich notch road is in worse shape than prior years, you could wing it in a sedan if you don't mind some undercarriage scrapes, but otherwise higher clearance would be a good idea. No mud, so anything 2wd with clearance is probably fine

Comments
Comments: Ran the loop in just over 3 hours. Great morning with cool misty air on the ascent, opening up for the afternoon.

Wet. From start to finish. The ascent was slippery and wet most of the way up. The tough part of Algonquin definitely needed more careful footing than if it is dry, but easily doable if you don't mind some scrambling.

The ridge was mostly packed soil, but still wet in spots.

The descent down Bennett Street was slick at the top, but opened up into mostly soil/mud for the two miles than descend 2k, very easy footing here, nothing too slick.

Flat mountain pond/guinea pond trail back out to the notch road was unavoidable mud 75% of the time, and sandy soil the rest. A few sections of trail were submerged for about 1/4 mile each. One section I probably could have swam if I wanted to - it was above my knees. Be prepared to be soaked unless you bring your fishing waders.
